The top ecommerce roles to hire are the specialist positions that own a revenue-critical channel or capability, which helps DTC operators build a team that scales with the business instead of behind it. The 14 roles below are the 2027 hires, and the calendar is already against you. A January start means opening the search in October.

The arithmetic is unforgiving. Ecommerce and digital brand roles average about 87 days to fill, close to double the 45 days a standard marketing or support role takes, because the qualified pool is narrow and mostly already employed (Constant Hire placement data, 2026). Broad recruiting benchmarks put the all-industry median far lower, at 39 days for non-executive roles and 45 for executive ones, which is exactly why a generalist timeline misleads you here. Add internal approval, a notice period, and onboarding runway, and a January start means opening the requisition in October.

You will also be shopping in a crowded window, because 86% of companies expect to be hiring in Q1. Treat the search start date as a competitive decision. It is the one variable you control before the market does.

Every page currently ranking for this topic is written for the person taking the job. Job boards, career guides, salary aggregators, all of it built for candidates. None of them tell you what a brand actually budgeted, what a candidate actually asked for, or how many days the search will run. This one gives you both sides of the table and the calendar, because those are the three things you need before you open a requisition, and none of them are available anywhere else.

Each role below covers the same five things: why it matters for 2027, what the person actually does, what brands are budgeting right now, what candidates are asking for, and how to hire the role well. The salary figures come from Constant Hire client requisitions and candidate interviews, not scraped job boards. That distinction is why a specialized ecommerce recruiter outperforms a generalist on questions like these.

The 14 roles at a glance

The two salary columns below measure different things, and the distance between them is the most useful number on this page. Brand budget is the range a client set on a live requisition. Candidate expectation is what vetted candidates stated in interviews. Where the candidate column runs higher, that requisition tends to stall at offer stage, and the table shows which ones.

Read it by trigger. Find the condition in the last column that matches your problem, then read that role section. The 14 roles group into six clusters: growth and acquisition, retention and conversion, retail media and data, AI and agentic commerce, composable engineering, and omnichannel operations. Each section sets out what the role actually owns, which is usually narrower than the job title suggests.

Role Cluster Brand budget Candidate ask Hire when
Head of Growth Growth and Acquisition $120,000 to $225,000 $150,000 to $230,000 Channels are siloed and nobody owns blended CAC

Where the budget gap runs against you

The gap between the two salary columns behaves differently depending on the role, and reading it wrong costs you a search.

Two roles have a floor problem. Head of Growth carries a brand budget starting at $120,000 against a candidate floor of $150,000, and Agentic Commerce sits at $150,000 against $170,000. On both, the bottom of a normal budget is below the bottom of the market. You cannot hire at the low end of your own band, and a requisition posted there will run for months before it reopens at a higher number. Set the band at the candidate floor or accept that you are recruiting from a smaller pool than the title suggests.

Four roles have a scoping problem instead. Composable Commerce Engineer runs $75,000 to $280,000 on the candidate side. Marketplace and Amazon Brand Manager runs $70,000 to $225,000. CRO Specialist and Creative Strategist are almost as wide. Those are not markets where pay is unsettled. They are titles covering two or three different jobs, and the number you land on is decided entirely by the scope you write. A brand budgeting $110,000 for a composable engineer and a brand budgeting $250,000 are both correct, and they are hiring different people.

Three roles give you room. Data and Analytics Lead, Ecommerce Product Manager, and the senior end of Agentic Commerce are the only positions on this list where documented client budgets reach above what candidates are asking. If you are hiring one of those, you have leverage in the offer that you will not have anywhere else on this page.

The pattern worth taking away: a narrow candidate range means the market has priced the role and your band has to meet it. A wide one means the market has not agreed on what the role is, and your job description decides the price.

The ecommerce roles to hire in 2027

The order runs from the roles most DTC brands need first to the ones only some need. Every role below uses the same five sub-headers, and every salary figure traces to a Constant Hire client requisition or a candidate we interviewed.

1. Head of Growth

Why this is a top role for 2027

The most requested role across Constant Hire searches in 2026. Brands open it once paid, retention, and creative run in isolation and nobody owns the blended number, which is the point where growth stops compounding and starts depending on whichever channel happens to be working.

What they do

They own full-funnel strategy and the blended CAC to LTV relationship, which means channel mix, budget allocation, and creative briefed against performance data. Under roughly $20M they stay in the ad accounts. Past it they manage specialists.

Salary expectations

Client budgets in 2026 ran $120K to $140K for a remote Head of Growth and $200K to $225K for a Director of Growth Marketing. Across the growth leaders we interviewed, the median stated target was $182,500, inside a $100K to $230K range (Constant Hire candidate data, 2025 to 2026). That median sits above the top of most client budgets for a Head of Growth, which is the single most common reason these searches reopen.

How to hire well

Screen for a number they moved and the constraint they moved it under. Ask what they would cut first at a 20% budget reduction, and why. Ask them to describe the last time they killed a channel that still showed positive ROAS, which separates operators who read contribution margin from operators who read platform dashboards. Anyone answering in channels rather than margin is a channel manager with a bigger title.

For DTC decision makers

Head of Growth at $3M and at $50M share almost nothing beyond the title. Anchor the scope to your revenue stage before you post, or you will interview candidates for three different jobs. Our head of growth recruitment page breaks the scope down by revenue band.

2. Performance Marketing Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

Media buying is no longer the whole job. Constant Hire has run media buyer searches for years, and our paid media candidate pool is one of the largest we hold. The requisitions that stall are almost always the ones scoped as button pushing, where the brand wants someone to execute a strategy nobody has written yet.

What they do

They own paid acquisition across Meta, Google, and increasingly TikTok. That covers campaign structure and testing, budget pacing, and creative direction fed back to the creative team. The part that matters most is reading incrementality instead of platform-reported ROAS, because the platforms grade their own homework and the P&L does not.

Salary expectations

Across the paid media specialists we interviewed, the median stated target was $120K, with an interquartile range of $90K to $140K and senior paid social leads asking up to $200K (Constant Hire candidate data, 2025 to 2026). Anything under $60K in this function is a nearshore or offshore candidate rather than a US band, and the two should not be compared directly.

How to hire well

Ask how they measure incrementality when the platform says one thing and the P&L says another. Strong candidates name a holdout or geo test. Weak ones recite dashboards.

For DTC decision makers

If creative is the bottleneck, a better media buyer will not fix your CAC. Diagnose which side is broken first.

3. Retail Media Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

A new line item on 2027 org charts that most DTC brands have not staffed. US retail media ad spend hit $60.32 billion in 2025 and is forecast at $71.09 billion in 2026. Global retail media is projected to overtake linear and connected TV advertising combined during 2026.

What they do

They own paid placement inside retailer ecosystems: Amazon Ads and DSP, Walmart Connect, Target Roundel, and commerce intermediaries such as Instacart and DoorDash. They negotiate joint business plans with retailer ad teams and reconcile retailer-reported performance against actual sell-through. The core skill is operating inside someone else's first-party data.

Salary expectations

The talent pool here is narrower than general paid media, which is itself the signal: brands started spending before anyone built a career path into the discipline. Across the retail media candidates we interview, the median stated target was $150K, running from a Senior Retail Media Strategist at $140K to a VP of Commerce Media at $250K (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026).

How to hire well

Ask them to explain the gap between retailer-reported ROAS and incremental net sales, and how they handle a retailer that both sells the ads and reports the results. Ask which retailer ad platforms they have personally held budget in, not just seen dashboards for. A candidate whose entire experience is Amazon Sponsored Products is a marketplace specialist, not a retail media operator.

For DTC decision makers

Under roughly $5M this sits inside the Marketplace Manager role. It becomes a standalone hire once retailer ad spend is material and more than one retailer is live. Until then you are hiring a brand manager who can run retailer platforms, not a retail media operator who owns the relationship.

4. Creative Strategist

Why this is a top role for 2027

Performance creative is the lever most brands still under-resource. Creative strategist and performance creative searches were our second most common category in 2026, behind only growth leadership. The wider market agrees: marketing and creative sit among the top hiring priorities at 65% of US employers.

What they do

They turn performance data into concepts, covering the testing roadmap, briefs for UGC creators, hooks and scripts, and results read at the concept level rather than the asset level. Increasingly they test sales pages too.

Salary expectations

An August 2026 client budget was $140K to $160K for a remote creative strategist writing sales pages, and a senior req that month was $100K to $120K. During our searches for creative strategists, the median stated target was $105K, with an interquartile range of $72K to $130K and directors of creative strategy asking $175K to $210K (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026).

How to hire well

Ask for a concept that lost, how many they ship per month, and how they decide one is dead. Separate the role from a creative director first, because full-funnel creative directors are a different hire.

For DTC decision makers

Variance here is the widest on this list, from $70K to $210K under a single title. Decide whether you want a concepting strategist or a team lead before you write the job description, because the two attract completely different candidates. When to hire a creative strategist covers the timing side of that call.

5. Retention and Lifecycle Marketing Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

Repeat revenue costs less than new acquisition, and that argument strengthens as paid costs rise. We run more searches in this function than almost any other, and the compensation picture behind it is the clearest we hold for any ecommerce role.

What they do

They own email, SMS, loyalty, and subscription lifecycle, covering flow building, cohort analysis, segmentation, and repeat purchase rate and LTV as named metrics. At scale it extends into loyalty design and win-back economics. Lifecycle and retention titles overlap heavily in this market, and the split decides what you write in the job description.

Salary expectations

Manager-level targets clustered at $120K to $160K. Specialists and email-only candidates sat at $70K to $110K. Directors of lifecycle marketing asked $170K to $200K, and senior candidates covering both retention and customer experience reached $200K (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026).

How to hire well

Ask what their flow revenue was as a percentage of total email revenue, and what they did to move it. Ask how they handle deliverability, because that is where inherited programs break.

For DTC decision makers

Under roughly $3M an agency or fractional operator works. The threshold for bringing retention marketing in-house is a subscription model, a loyalty program, or a repeat purchase rate you are actively trying to move.

6. CRO Specialist

Why this is a top role for 2027

CRO is the cheapest growth lever a brand owns, and the one most often outsourced to an agency running generic tests. It makes existing traffic worth more, which matters more every year that paid acquisition gets more expensive. The reason it stays outsourced is that most brands cannot tell whether they need a testing program or a rebuild, so they buy tests either way. Brands that want the testing roadmap in-house hire a CRO manager instead of buying tests by the month.

What they do

They own the experimentation roadmap, covering PDP and cart testing, checkout friction, landing page structure, and site search. They run tests with enough traffic discipline to reach significance, and report lift against revenue per session.

Salary expectations

Across the CRO and experimentation candidates we interview, the median stated target was $137,500, with an interquartile range of $72K to $175K (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026). The spread is wide because the title covers two different jobs: dedicated experimentation specialists at the lower end, and ecommerce managers who own CRO inside a broader remit at the top.

Client budgets on live CRO requisitions ran $100,000 to $175,000 in 2026, which sits below the candidate ceiling and above the specialist floor (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026). That is a scoping gap rather than a pay gap.

How to hire well

Ask for a test that failed and what they changed in the roadmap because of it. Ask what minimum sample size they require before calling a result, because the common failure in this discipline is declaring wins on underpowered tests. Then ask what they would do on a site without enough traffic for classic A/B testing, since that is the situation most DTC brands are actually in.

For DTC decision makers

Below roughly 30,000 monthly sessions you lack the traffic for a real testing program. Hire a developer with CRO judgement instead.

7. AI Operations Lead

Why this is a top role for 2027

The clearest new hire for 2027. Among US employers, 92% report some AI adoption and 57% have raised baseline productivity expectations as a result. More telling for headcount planning: 24% are hiring more people because of AI, against 16% hiring fewer. The gap sits between brands where individuals use AI tools and brands where AI has an owner.

What they do

They build and maintain the internal automation layer, covering workflow orchestration, prompt and agent design, and guardrails. Typical territory is merchandising data enrichment, customer service triage, and reporting automation. An operations role with technical fluency, not a data science hire.

Salary expectations

Pay for this role is still forming, because most people doing the job did not start with the title. Across the candidates we see with AI and automation in scope, the median stated target was $170K, and most of those are operations leaders who added AI to an existing remit rather than specialists hired into it (Constant Hire, 2026). A dedicated Head of Artificial Intelligence sat lower, at $160K, which tells you the title carries no premium yet.

How to hire well

Ask them to walk through one workflow they automated end to end, including what broke and how they decide whether it is worth maintaining. The failure mode is a graveyard of workflows nobody owns.

For DTC decision makers

A real hire above roughly $10M, a fractional or promotion decision below it. The worst version is a title with no mandate.

8. Agentic Commerce and AI Discovery Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

Shopify announced the Universal Commerce Protocol with Google in January 2026 and now connects merchants to AI channels natively, with fintech rails for agent-initiated payment alongside it. Industry analysis puts roughly 70% of AI referral traffic as invisible in Google Analytics 4. So brands are being discovered and recommended inside AI assistants with nobody accountable for how they show up, and no reliable way to see it happening.

What they do

They own how the brand and its catalog appear inside AI assistants and AI-driven search, which means product data and schema agents can read accurately, share of citation tracking, and attribution rebuilt so AI revenue shows up. The work overlaps technical SEO and merchandising.

Salary expectations

Mid-to-senior managers run $150,000 to $190,000, and director or VP scope covering agentic workflows and machine-readable catalog optimization reaches $170,000 to $260,000 (Constant Hire, 2026). Client budgets on this role have been set as high as $300,000, which reflects how few people can credibly claim the experience.

How to hire well

Because the title barely exists, screen for adjacent evidence rather than a matching resume. Ask what they have done to make a catalog machine-readable and how they would measure AI-sourced revenue. Strong candidates come from technical SEO or marketplace data.

For DTC decision makers

Most brands should assign this scope to an existing owner rather than open a requisition. Hiring early buys a title, not a capability.

9. Composable Commerce Engineer

Why this is a top role for 2027

Architecture is now a hiring question. Among US brands, as per the 2026 MACH Alliance Enterprise Technology Report, 92% have implemented composable elements, and organizations project 61% of their stack as MACH or composable entering 2026. The number that should matter to a founder: composable-mature organizations report clear returns on AI investment 78% of the time, against 13% for everyone else (MACH Alliance Enterprise Technology Report, 2026). Storefront engineering and AI readiness are becoming the same conversation.

What they do

They build and maintain the storefront, from theme and Liquid work to headless and API-first architecture. They own Core Web Vitals, custom backend logic, app consolidation, integrations across the ecommerce platforms the brand runs, and the structured data layer AI agents read.

Salary expectations

Entry level runs roughly $76,000 to $96,000, mid-level $100K to $140K, senior $120K to $185K, and architect level $185K to $280K (Constant Hire salary benchmarks, 2026).

How to hire well

Ask about a decision where they chose not to add an app and built native instead. Ask for a performance number they moved, and what makes a catalog readable by a shopping agent.

For DTC decision makers

Under roughly $5M a retained freelancer is the right answer. The full-time case is a sustained backlog, a testing roadmap, or a migration.

10. Ecommerce Product Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

As the stack fragments into services, someone has to own the roadmap across them. With 92% of US brands now running composable elements somewhere in the stack, the number of systems that need a decision made about them has gone up while the number of people making those decisions has not. This role turns a queue of requests into a prioritized plan tied to revenue, and it becomes necessary once the developer is pulled in four directions.

What they do

They own the digital product roadmap across storefront, checkout, account area, and the integrations between them. Product management here means discovery against customer service and analytics data, requirements developers can build from, and the release calendar. An ecommerce product manager decides what gets built and why. A project manager decides when it ships. Brands that conflate the two end up with a well-run backlog of the wrong work.

Salary expectations

Digital and ecommerce product managers we interview state $175K to $200K, with client budgets running $140K to $200K depending on whether the role owns roadmap only or roadmap plus a channel (Constant Hire, 2026). The wider band at the lower end reflects hybrid titles, where product sits alongside retention or merchandising rather than standing alone.

This is one of only three roles on this list where documented client budgets reach above what candidates are asking. If you are hiring here, the market is on your side of the table.

How to hire well

Hiring an ecommerce product manager means asking how they say no, and for a request they declined and why. Also ask what data they used to prioritize last quarter, and for a specification a developer built without follow-up questions.

For DTC decision makers

Rarely a first ten hires role. It becomes obvious when your developer spends more time in prioritization meetings than in code. What this person does not own is the code, the design, or the revenue number attached to any single channel. They own the sequence. Brands that give a product manager a revenue target and no authority over the roadmap have hired a coordinator with a better title.

11. Data and Analytics Lead

Why this is a top role for 2027

Measurement is getting harder. Retail media runs on retailer data you do not own, AI referral traffic is largely invisible in standard analytics, and the EU Digital Product Passport phases in from 2026 with product-level data obligations. Where your customer and product data lives, and who controls it, is now an operating question rather than an IT one.

What they do

They own the measurement layer, covering warehouse and pipeline, attribution modeling, contribution margin reporting, and the single source of truth everyone argues about. Business intelligence tooling, data governance, and consent sit here too. At DTC scale that is one person building infrastructure.

Salary expectations

Average total compensation for this role sits near $212,000. Mid-level analytics managers run $115,000 to $175,000, lead and director base pay runs $130,000 to $220,000, and the top 10% of the market clears $262,000 (Constant Hire, 2026). Client budgets on the roles we have run reach $350,000 at the top end, which is the highest ceiling of any role on this list.

How to hire well

If you are hiring a Data and Analytics Lead for your ecommerce brand, ask them to explain a discrepancy between two systems and how they resolved it. Ask whether they built a warehouse or inherited one, and how they attribute channels with no click data.

For DTC decision makers

Below roughly $10M a consulting engagement builds the foundation and a lighter internal owner maintains it. The full-time case arrives when spend decisions run on numbers nobody trusts.

12. Marketplace and Amazon Brand Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

Marketplaces stopped being a side channel. Amazon, Walmart, and Target now carry a real share of revenue for most DTC brands over $5M, and the searches we run reflect it. Amazon and Marketplace roles are among the most consistent requisitions in our 2026 mix, split across brand management, vendor management, and director-level marketplace strategy. The compensation data behind this role is some of the deepest we hold, which is what repeated demand looks like in a pipeline.

What they do

They own marketplace P&L, covering catalog and listing quality, Seller Central or Vendor Central operations, advertising, replenishment, and account health. It now also means listing optimization for AI-driven retailer search, since retailer discovery is moving the same direction as web search.

Salary expectations

An August 2026 client budget was $100K to $120K for a Senior Amazon Brand and Vendor Manager in California, and $105K to $120K for a Senior Ecommerce Manager covering marketplaces remotely. Across the marketplace candidates we interview, the median stated target was $120K, with an interquartile range of $105K to $150K, reaching $180K to $225K for directors of marketplaces (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026). Note the direction of travel here: candidate expectations sit at the top of what most brands budget, which is why marketplace requisitions stall on the offer rather than on sourcing.

How to hire well

Ask which account they held P&L for and what contribution margin looked like. Ask how they handle a suppressed listing or an account health event, which separates an operator from a coordinator. Ask whether they have run both Seller Central and Vendor Central, because the operating models differ enough that experience in one does not transfer cleanly to the other.

For DTC decision makers

If Amazon is more than roughly 20% of revenue and nobody owns it full-time, that is the signal. Agency management works right up until inventory and account health decisions need someone sitting inside the business, which is the point marketplace manager recruitment usually starts.

13. TikTok Shop and Social Commerce Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

Social commerce merged the influencer function and the sales channel into one job. The titles in this market show the convergence clearly: influencer marketing managers who also run TikTok Shop, affiliate managers who own GMV, and growth strategists who specialize in a single platform. Treat it as one role, not two.

What they do

They own the channel end to end, from shop setup and catalog through creator recruitment, live shopping calendars, and the fulfillment metrics the platform enforces. They manage payouts and commissions, and they report GMV rather than engagement.

Salary expectations

A senior growth strategist focused on TikTok Shop states $140K to $150K. A TikTok Shop affiliate manager states $95K to $120K. Client roles combining DTC, UGC, and TikTok Shop influencer management were posted at $175K to $195K, and a July 2026 client budget for an influencer marketing manager was $80K to $105K. Heads of influencer marketing sit at $170K to $216K (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026).

How to hire well

Ask for GMV they own and the creator count behind it. Ask how they handle platform fulfillment and service metrics, since accounts get throttled on operations rather than content.

For DTC decision makers

The common mistake is hiring a social media manager and expecting channel revenue. Social media and social commerce are different jobs.

14. Supply Chain and Returns Manager

Why this is a top role for 2027

Returns became a regulated inventory flow rather than a warehouse decision. From July 2026, the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation bars large companies from destroying unsold or returned apparel and footwear. California's Responsible Textile Recovery Act puts producer responsibility on textile waste over the same period. Brands selling into either market now need someone who can route returned units through grading, resale, or recycling with documentation behind it.

What they do

They own inventory planning, purchase order timing, 3PL relationships, and landed cost. The newer half is reverse logistics, meaning return reason capture, grading criteria, resale routing, and the compliance paperwork your legal team will ask for. Returns become a recovery channel rather than a cost line.

Salary expectations

Client budgets in 2026 ran $80K to $115K for fulfillment operations supervisor and manager roles. Candidates sat higher, with supply chain and operations managers at $120K to $160K, directors of distribution and logistics at $160K to $190K, and VP of Supply Chain at $275K to $300K (Constant Hire, 2025 to 2026).

How to hire well

Ask what their return rate was and what they did to it. Ask whether they have built grading criteria for returned stock, which almost nobody has.

For DTC decision makers

If you sell apparel or footwear into the EU, this is a compliance dependency, so your legal counsel should read the scope first.

When to start each search for a 2027 start

Time to fill starts when the requisition opens internally, not when the job goes live. Offer acceptance is not a start date either, because notice periods add two to four weeks after signature.

Source: built from Constant Hire recruiting benchmarks, extended for specialist and scarce-skill roles.

Market figures reflect ecommerce and digital brand roles, which average about 87 days to fill, with leadership searches running longer. Constant Hire figures average 44 days across all ecommerce placements, 2026. Leadership searches sit above that average and manager-level roles below it. The req dates assume the Constant Hire timeline. Running the search in-house or through a generalist recruiter means moving every date four to six weeks earlier.

Senior roles need the longer runway for structural reasons. The pool is small, most of it is already employed, and every strong candidate is fielding more than one conversation. Broad recruiting benchmarks split at 39 days for non-executive roles against 45 for executive ones (SHRM, 2026), but those figures cover every industry. Ecommerce specialist searches routinely run past 60 days, and Director or VP searches past 80.

Scarce roles lose more time upstream, since finance signs off on a band before sourcing starts.

Our own placement data runs against those market timelines. Across recent ecommerce placements, Constant Hire reaches a first interview in about 5 days and a full fill in roughly 44 days, against a market benchmark near 87 days for ecommerce and digital brand roles (Constant Hire placement data, 2026). Candidate to accepted offer runs about 21 days inside that. The gap is not process discipline on the client side. It is a pipeline that already exists when the search opens, which is why we back placements with a 60-day replacement guarantee.

Senior and scarce roles still run longer than the average. A Director or VP search can pass 80 days depending on process and expectations, and 44 days is the mean across a book that includes faster manager-level fills.

Work backwards from the table. If a role has to be productive by a given quarter, treat the search start date as a commitment rather than an intention. Brands without a dedicated HR and recruiting function slip here most often, because the requisition waits on whoever has capacity that week.

How to prioritize when you cannot hire all of them

Nobody hires 14 roles. Three rules decide the order.

Hire against the constraint, not the trend. If creative is the reason paid performance is flat, a better media buyer changes nothing. Market-wide hiring priorities tell you which roles are competitive to fill. They tell you nothing about which side of your own funnel is broken.

Hire the role that owns a revenue line before the role that supports one. A Marketplace Manager or a Retention Manager carries a number. A coordinator does not.

Several roles above are agency, fractional, or consulting decisions below a certain revenue point, and the sections that apply name the threshold. Sequencing a full team across revenue stages is a separate problem, and knowing when to bring in the right roles covers it in full.

How we get this data, and why our searches close faster

Every salary figure on this page came out of a conversation, not a scrape.

Our recruiters run 80 to 100 calls a week with ecommerce and DTC operators, and roughly 90% of the people we talk to are not open to work. They are employed at brands and agencies, doing the job, and they take the call because the right opportunity is worth hearing about. That is where the candidate expectation column comes from. It is what someone currently running paid media at a $30M brand says they would move for, which is a different number from what a job board reports and a more useful one if you are setting a band.

Those calls happen whether or not a client search is open. Most agencies start sourcing the day a requisition lands. We are already talking to the market, so when a brand opens a search we are matching against people we have interviewed rather than starting a hunt. Our database now runs into the thousands of vetted ecommerce operators, which is why a first interview lands in about 5 days instead of five weeks. Some of that is a shortlist of profiles, some of it is calls already booked. Either way the client is looking at real candidates inside a week.

The full fill averages 44 days across every ecommerce placement we make, against a market benchmark near 87 days for the same category of role (Constant Hire placement data, 2026). That 44 is a mean and it hides a spread. Manager-level searches close well under it. A Head of Growth, a Data and Analytics Lead, or a VP-level search can run past 80 days, because the qualified pool is small and the candidates are all employed. What the 44 says is that the whole book moves at roughly half market speed, not that every role does.

Every placement carries a 60-day replacement guarantee, extended to 90 days on executive searches.

The screening questions in each role section above are not generic interview advice. Connor Gross and Nick Parente founded Constant Hire after selling an Amazon brand and generating over $30M in DTC revenue through private-label Shopify businesses, so the questions come from having sat on the hiring side of these roles. The recruiting team behind him comes out of DTC, CPG, ecommerce, and tech recruiting, which is the reason we can tell the difference between a media buyer who reads incrementality and one who reads a dashboard. A generalist recruiter cannot screen for that, which is why generalist searches for these roles take twice as long and still miss.

Start the search for the top ecommerce roles to hire in 2027

You know which roles you need. The remaining problem is the calendar, and that is the part most brands lose. A generalist recruiter who filled an account executive requisition last month has a pipeline of business development and digital marketing generalists, not retail media operators. That mismatch costs you the runway you needed in October.

Constant Hire recruits for DTC and ecommerce brands only. The candidates for these roles are already in our pipeline and already interviewed, which is how a first interview lands in about 5 days instead of five weeks, and how a full fill averages 44 days against a market benchmark near 87. Every placement carries a 60-day replacement guarantee.

If a 2027 role has to be productive in Q1, book a strategy call with a top ecommerce recruitment partner and open the search while there is still runway.
