Interview

Senior creative leaders rarely struggle to find work. They struggle to find roles where their experience actually compounds. For many, the problem is not opportunity volume, but role fit, leadership alignment, and finding a challenge that feels worth working on. This was the position Michael O’Brien found himself in before our team at Constant Hire reached out to him.

Michael had already led creative at a high-growth DTC brand, True Classic. What he wanted next was ownership, influence, and the chance to build systems that could scale. Within days of connecting with our team, he was in conversations that matched that ambition. One of those conversations turned into his current role at Filterbuy, where he now leads performance creative and internal creative infrastructure.

This is Michael’s perspective on the process, the role, and why the match worked.

Candidate Profile

Name: Michael O’Brien
Current Role: Head of Performance Creative
Company: Filterbuy
Previous Role: Head of Creative Strategy at True Classic

CH: What was your situation before working with Constant Hire?

Michael: I was head of Creative of Creative Strategy at True Classic and had been there for 2 years when I reached out to the Constant Hire team. At that time I had felt like I had hit a wall in what I could accomplish at True Classic and needed something fresh.

I reached out to Constant Hire and within a couple of days they sent over some good opportunities and when I met with the Filterbuy team I knew it was going to be a great fit.

CH: What kind of role were you aiming for and why?

Michael: I was looking for a more senior role where I could implement my own ideas and take all the experience I had gained over the last few years and build something that really felt like my own.

I was fortunate to get set up with the Filterbuy team who were looking for someone to build their internal structure and process. They were also incredibly ambitious and made the decision easy.

CH: How did working with Constant Hire feel different from other recruiters?

Michael: They work fast and really take the time to find out what exactly you're looking for and work with you to find the right fit.

Often with recruiters it can feel like they just need to fill roles and you might be put in contact with companies for the sake of taking a meeting but Constant Hire want to help you find the right fit

CH: How did Constant Hire help you land the right role?

Michael: Throughout the whole process the Constant Hire team were great about scheduling calls, letting me know who I would be speaking to and the likely topics.

They would always message me after calls to find out how things went and to see if there is anything else they could help with. It felt like they were rooting for me which was nice to receive that sort of support.

CH: What role did you accept, why was it the right match, and what impact have you had?

Michael: I accepted the role of Head of Performance Creative at Filterbuy. The opportunity was too good to pass up and I loved the ambition that Filterbuy had. They wanted to make waves, not just in their industry but in general. I also really appreciated their core values and how everyone I spoke to felt a real affinity to the company. It felt like a family.

Since I have arrived we have built out their internal creative framework and we have doubled our ad spend while maintaining key KPI’s. While also working towards a massive top of funnel campaign that will start coming to fruition over the next few weeks

Looking back, how would you describe the experience?

Michael: I am very appreciative of the Constant Hire team for helping me land such a good opportunity and have nothing bad to say about the team.

They were there every step of the way and would recommend them to anyone who is looking to find their dream role or the right fit for their team.

What this hire shows

Michael’s placement reflects a pattern we often see at Constant Hire. Senior candidates do not need more introductions. They need clearer mandates, aligned leadership, and roles designed for ownership.

For founders and operators, this is the real takeaway. When a company hires for impact instead of coverage, and when candidates are matched on ambition and structure, outcomes compound quickly. The result is not just a filled seat, but a leader who builds systems that scale.

If you are a senior candidate evaluating your next role in the DTC or ecommerce space and want to work with a team that prioritizes fit, mandate clarity, and long-term impact, you can submit your resume to our team. Our experienced talent partners are ready to help candidates step into roles where they can build, lead, and scale.
