Job Description

About the Company

Our client is a dog products company built around joy, connection, and the delightful chaos that defines the bond between dogs and their people. The client isn't just selling toys, it's on a mission to build the leading company in its category. It operates at the intersection of data, technology, and pure creativity, moving fast, testing relentlessly, and using real feedback from customers to build smarter systems, better products, and more meaningful experiences.

The role is based New York (hybrid) or open to remote in the US.

Role Overview

The Direct-to-Consumer team owns every touchpoint of the customer experience, from how people discover products to how they shop, subscribe, and come back for more. The client is building the happiest store on earth for dogs and their humans, bringing together merchandising, technology, data, and creativity to create experiences customers love and
drive meaningful growth. This role leads the site merchandising function and helps set the direction for how the client's website evolves as a shopping experience and growth channel. You’ll work closely with leaders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Creative, Analytics, and Operations to turn customer and business insights into better experiences and stronger performance.

The client is looking for a Director of eCommerce Site Merchandising to set the strategy for how customers discover, shop, and engage with the brand online. You’ll own the merchandising vision for the website, including promotional and pricing strategy, product discovery, personalization, conversion optimization, and the systems and processes that power the experience.

This is a role for someone who can zoom out and set direction, then make sure the right work actually gets done. You understand the relationship between customer experience and commercial performance and know how to make smart tradeoffs when there isn’t an obvious answer. You’ll use customer behavior, experimentation, AI, and automation to identify opportunities, improve how the team operates, and shape where we invest next. You’ll also lead and develop the merchandising team, raising the bar for how we think about the customer journey and helping build an eCommerce experience worthy of dogs everywhere. And yes, you should really love dogs.

Responsibilities

  • Own the eCommerce merchandising strategy for Bark.co and the business outcomes it drives, setting the direction for product discovery, promotions, pricing, personalization, and conversion to grow revenue, average order value, and customer engagement.
  • Set the promotional and commercial strategy for major moments including Black Friday, seasonal campaigns, licensing launches, and limited-time offers. Make the tradeoffs across customer experience, margin, inventory, and revenue, and align teams around a clear plan.
  • Define the roadmap for improving the shopping experience, using customer behavior, experimentation, and business performance to identify the highest-impact opportunities across product detail pages, navigation, taxonomy, search, personalization, and site functionality. Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to turn those priorities into meaningful improvements.
  • Build a smarter, more scalable merchandising operation. Establish how the team uses AI, automation, analytics, reporting, QA, and platform capabilities to move faster, improve accuracy, surface opportunities, and make better decisions without adding unnecessary process.
  • Lead and develop the site merchandising team while shaping eCommerce priorities across the broader organization. Establish clear goals and measures of success, develop talent, and influence leaders across Marketing, Creative, Product, Technology, Analytics, and Operations to deliver a cohesive customer experience and stronger business results.

Who They're Looking For

  • A track record of setting merchandising, pricing, and promotional strategies that translate into measurable business results.
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to balance revenue, margin, inventory, customer experience, and longer-term brand considerations when making decisions.
  • Experience shaping an eCommerce roadmap and influencing Product and engineering priorities based on customer and business impact.
  • Strong understanding of personalization, experimentation, A/B testing, search, navigation, taxonomy, and conversion optimization.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Shopify and the broader eCommerce ecosystem, with enough technical fluency to understand platform capabilities, limitations, and opportunities.
  • Strong analytical instincts and experience using tools such as Looker, Excel, or Google Sheets to find the story in the data and turn it into decisions.
  • Experience using AI, automation, and modern eCommerce technology to improve workflows, accelerate learning, and create more scalable ways of working.
  • Experience building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams, including setting clear expectations and creating ownership beneath you.
  • The ability to bring clarity to ambiguous problems, make decisions without perfect information, and influence senior leaders and teams with different priorities.

This is a full-time role. We offer competitive compensation, equity, and benefits designed to support both you and your pack, including comprehensive healthcare, pet wellness coverage, and the flexibility and support you need to do your best work.
